family environment the kitchen is more than a place to prepare meals.
It is the hub, a gathering place, an entertaining space and with
more and more families cooking together, it is a "How's your day?"
creative space.
When considering a kitchen remodeling
project know that it adds the most value to your home.
Here are a few more suggestions:
• Larger kitchens
have a better resale value than smaller kitchens.
• Look at your current kitchen and ask yourself what is it missing and what does it have too much of? In most cases what is missing is work surface space and it has too much clutter that takes up a large portion of the work space you do have. Items like microwaves, mixers and other small appliances tend to take up a lot of space. Look to create more work space and remove the clutter.
• Look to triangulate the work areas including the prep area, cook area and refrigerator. Is there more than one cook in the family? Do you need dual work areas?
• Add more lighting. Ambient lighting that fills the area is obvious, but task lighting that focuses more light in a specific work area can make it easier to see what you are doing.
• Because the kitchen has become a gathering place, add electronics like a TV and stereo.
